The Weight of Memory
In my research for the recent historical series, I found myself struck by how often we curate our own pasts. We hold onto the moments that bolster our current identity while letting the difficult edges smooth out over time. History, however, has a way of refusing to be polished. It remains stubbornly jagged, reminding us that every gain we enjoy today was often built upon the quiet, unrecorded sacrifices of someone who walked this path long before us. There is a profound, albeit heavy, grace in acknowledging the full scope of that lineage, even the parts that feel uncomfortable to revisit. It asks us to be better stewards of the present because we are not just living for ourselves, but are the caretakers of a legacy that continues to unfold. How do you decide which parts of your own personal history are worth carrying forward, and which parts are better left in the dust of the road behind you?
